Facilitating Translanguaging and Agency through Readers and Writers Workshops

This session will share our experiences implementing a workshop-based method for teaching balanced literacy that supports the revised PYP curriculum and refers to the newest trends in research on second language acquisition and writing.

An interdisciplinary approach involving cognitive sciences, social theories and study on bilingualism is needed in order to understand what multicompetent users can do, as opposed to only understanding what they cannot do in their new language.

The ideal outcome describes a classroom environment in which language and writing are strictly connected through reciprocally supportive development.

The event is finished.
